Factory restore

[ Editado ]

Hello, I have 2 linked questions which i hope will put my mind at ease.

I have an Aspire M3910 i5 650 Windows 7 home premium (bought in Jan 2011) and would like to restore to factory settings (possibly passing the PC on), which I understand will completely wipe the (C: ) Drive.

But I noticed on the DATA (D: ) Drive I have 288GB FREE out of 289GB. But on the DATA (D: ) properties tab it shows on the Pie chart  that there is 468 MB of used space (tiny i know).

So, from the factory should there have been anything on the DATA (D: ) at all or is that 468 MB important stuff or can I delete it or use Disk Cleanup?

Secondly, on the Disk Defragmenter, (this has been schedule run for as long as i know) The  SYSTEM RESERVED  is at 8% fragmented (not a clue what is on SYSTEM RESERVED). Should I defragment this before factory restore or leave well alone?

thank you.

Re: Factory restore

The system I have does not have any information stored on the D: drive, so I do not know what would be using the 468MB of space on D:. You should be able to look at the drive in windows explorer and see what files are on it.

I would not worry about defragging the drive, as recovery should take care of any fragmented files on the C: partition, and there should not be any significant fragmentation to D: if you have not been using it. I would also disregard defragging the system reserved area, as it should not affect performance.

Re: Factory restore

Thank you for the reply,

I bit the bullet and restored the PC the other day with so far no problems.

Before doing so, I did check everywhere that I knew of and virus scanned the system a number of times. But apart from the properties pie chart showing 468MB used, everywhere else showed it was 100% free.

For example,

Disk management - status healthy -100% free.

No disc errors

No folders in D: (never knowingly put anything in it).

Disc cleanup showed nothing to clean up.

And after restore its still showing the 468MB used.

Maybe i'm worrying about nothing as everything seems to be working fine.

again thanks for the reply.

what is needed is go to Disk Management - click ans let it run the module.... then take a picture of that. on some computers (not sure why) but some will show the Recovery Partition as a Drive letter.... and 400MB is about right. you should also have a hidden partition that you can only see this way. post back and let us see what you actually have... a sample of what I have - now I also have partitioned the original C:\ into other Partitions... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16353842/Acer/1.png
