Aspire X3990 recovery problem

PC doesn't boot.

~ Tried Alt-F10. No succes. In the BIOS there is no D2D recovery option.

~ Tried to reset to factory-settings with CD's I made when I bought PC. The only option that's available is EXIT. So no succes.

~ Tried to use win 7 recovery CD. No succes. I can open a DOS-screen and see the X-drive (named boot). C-drive/disk not present, recognized.

What can I do next?

Thanks,

Acrama

Re: Aspire X3990 recovery problem

Hi Acrama

If the C: drive is not being recognised, or is listed as not present, then your hard disk has failed. It will also explain why you can't reinstall from the recovery disks you've made.

The best thing to do is to buy a replacement hard drive, fit it inside your computer, then use the recovery disks to reinstall Windows.

Re: Aspire X3990 recovery problem

Thanks for your answer.

I have some extra questions.

I find it hard to believe the disk is chrashed. I had a problem with a virus and trying to solve the virus-problem the no-boot occured. May be I've ruined the mbr, or the virus did.
Can not-recognising the C-drive be because some drivers are missing?

I bought this PC 11 month ago, so I think it's still under garantee. Will Acer replace my harddrive for me or is that excluded?

Thnx, Acrama

Re: Aspire X3990 recovery problem

Well, if it has failed, then yes - this should be replaced under warranty. Hard drives can vary in life, but one thing that is for sure is that they all fail at some point! That is why us techies always go on about making backups and about burning your recovery disks!

It is possible that a virus can corrupt your boot data, although it is rare!

It should not stop you from using your recovery partition to reinstall Windows. However a faulty hard drive certainly can.
