Hi,

I am new to the Acer forums.

My friend has an Acer Aspire M1640 running Vista Home Edition. In the device manager under Network Adapters there are four errors" all beginning with Microsoft 6to4 adapter". The NVIDIA adapter is working fine and she can get internet. I followed instructions elsewhere on the internet and uninstalled the Microsoft 6to4 adapter (error code 31) and then re-installed the Legacy component. The alert disappeared. So i tried deleting the other 6to4 errors which were... 6to4 Adapter #15, 6to4 Adapter #18, and 6to4 Adapter #5. When I rebooted the computer all four were present again with errors. I tried updating the drivers for all but was told they were already up to date. I tried system restore because she had deleted a bunch of stuff previous to calling me but system restore points didn't go back far enough to repair what she did. The computer is painfully slow booting and freezes once in a while. Any suggestions?

If the system is taking a long time to start Windows, there may be many programs or applications loading. A good indication of this may be the number of icons located in the lower right hand corner of the display next to the time and date. Uninstalling the unused applications may help restore system resources and provide a shorter boot time.

To resolve the wireless issue, right click and uninstall all the devices under network adapter in device mager

Then find the correct wireless adapter manufacturer by running this utility Hardware vendor utility

 Then download and install Chipset  driver,  download only the  LAN and wireless driver  listed in the hardware vendor list

If you wish to restore your computer to factory settings from bootup

1. Locate the Alt key, to the left of the space bar, and F10, on the top row of keys.
2. Power the system on.
3. When the system is powered on, tap the Alt and F10 keys together at the same time when the Acer splash screen appears.
   It should state "Please wait a moment..." with the Acer logo in the upper left hand corner.
4. At the eRecovery Management menu it will ask you how to restore.
5. Click on the restore option you would like to use.

The icons on the task bar (by the clock) were the first thing I looked for. I got rid of the extra unneeded programs. It still boots slowly. I am going to try what you suggested for the drivers and will get back to you.

Hi!

I uninstalled the network adapters and I ran the vendor utility and found nothing regarding the wireless adapter manufacturer. So... I just reinstalled the NVIDIA LAN adapter that you provided and restarted the computer and found that the 6to4 adapter errors were gone. My friend doesn't use wirless internet anyway.

The computer still boots very slowly.

I ran a scan disk to check for hardware difficulties and it fixed one error. But it still boots very slowly. Whether in safe mode or not.

Something I noticed while working on her computer is there are three different "control" programs on her computer. ATI, Realtek, and NVIDIA. Could they cause a problem or conflict?

I am not very tech savvy but I am trying LOL
