AXC 605 remove McAfee and activate Defender

I have a new AXC 605 desktop and have used McAfee for a month. Will Defender be adequate for a new virus protector, and how do I activate? It would be easier to continue with McAfee, but I would like to delete it.

There are several free antivirus available for download. One that is supported by Windows and I found that works well is Microsoft Security Essentials. To remove McAfee, go into your control panel, then selelct add/remove programs. From there you can select McAfee and clikc uninstall.
