Things that are not working for me are:

1. Video acceleration

2. Power management (screen brightness control etc)

3. Keyboard and touchpad

Re: Hi Folks - If you want to use Windows 8 on the Acer C720:...

The reason we can't get any drivers to work for the keyboard and mouse on this model and it's predecessor is in part due to the I2C drivers, which I have found various forms that would have worked. The reason those drivers do not work though is due to the fact that the SeaBios/Coreboot firmware does not have a full ACPI implementation in it for the hardware in these machines. Once someone actually overcomes that and makes SeaBios more like an actual BIOS for PC implementation, then we will be able be able to install I2C drivers from other notebooks, namely Dell and Samsung notebooks as they use the exact same hardware in them as these Acer models do. So, developers, get cracking on the firmware and implement a full ACPI solution for haswell and we'll all benefit from it.

Re: Hi Folks - If you want to use Windows 8 on the Acer C720:...

Hello cptsulu,

I do not thik that  the prblem is with the bios. I have installed Ubuntu on the C720 and added the driver for the mousepad (not natively present in ubuntu 14). Everythingh worked fine with the existing bios.

What's really missing are the driver for Windows. It is puzzling that microsoft wants to break the Chromebook market by making available cheap laptop with Windws OS when all it had to do is to realease a Windoes update with the missing drivers for the chromebok hardware

Re: **GUIDE** Install Windows 8 on the Acer C720

I managed to get Windows 7 Aero working on my Acer C720.IMG_0009.JPG

1. Set up Teamviewer just in case

2. Install the other drivers we have (Atheros WiFi and Realtek Audio drivers)

3. Install the Intel Graphics Driver from Windows Update

4. Set up teamviewer to run on startup so you can access the chromebook if something goes wrong

5. Restart the chromebook after installing the graphics driver

TO AVOID THE BLACK SCREEN ISSUE:

1. Start up the chromebook and press Ctrl+L

2. When the Windows 7 "Starting Windows" boot screen pops up, close the lid

3. Wait for it to autologin and go to the desktop

4. Open the lid and the desktop should show up fine on the internal display, with aero and graphics acceleration.

Re: **GUIDE** Install Windows 8 on the Acer C720

Well this is how the C720 (Celeron + 2 GB RAM) performs on Windows 7.

Pretty good compared to other netbooks.

Re: **GUIDE** Install Windows 8 on the Acer C720

no, keyboard and touchpad don't work in windows 7. Oddly enough, the keyboard works fine at the Windows boot menu and I'm able to bring up the "F8" menu with it. It stops working at the login screen though.
