Battery Percentage and computer problems

I was looking through my little book that came with my chromebook and I saw that it said something about a battery percentage and that you can see how long it has to charge in the bottom right corner..... I do not and have not been able to see what my battery percentage is and how long I have to charge it for because it is not in the bottom rigth corner. I have school coming up in two weeks and I do not want to have to carry around my cord to plug it into every single class. Also, I would like to know why my computer will not turn on unless it is plugged into an outlet. I would very much enjoy it if someone would reply soon..

If you computer will not power on without the AC adapter, then that tells me there is a problem with the battery itself or maybe the power board inside the computer. Please contact technical support in your region for assistance.
