upgrade PSU for Aspire XC-704G ?

Hello,

I would like to upgrade my Aspire desktop from a 65 watt brick power adapater to a 200 watt power supply.

Looks like it could fit in there. I was wondering if there was an official way to do this.

I have had the computer for about a year. I would like to install a GeForce 210 video card. The pciexpress 16 card slot is there in the 704G, but there needs to be a 200 watt psu in it for that card to work.

Thanks.

One of the graphics cards that comes pre-installed on that computer is the OEM GT-705.  It only draws 29 watts.

If your GeForce 210 only draws 30 watts, I'm assuming it will work with a 90W adapter..   I could be wrong.

I can't seem to find Acer's parts dept phone number, but here is their support number.  Maybe you can get their parts number from them.

Mine didn't come with a video card, the slot is empty. It has an IntelHD chip. 144 megs. Display is 1920 x 1080.

And the Gefore 210 requires 200 watts to run.

I'll look up those video cards you list and see if I can afford them.

I received an email earleir today suggesting i look in accessories in the Acer store. But my desktop isn't listed.

Newegg lists the 710 video card, but not the 705. Amazone didn't list it.

Any links to a U.S. seller of this video card ?

Oh. Ok.  I didn't realize someone from Acer was emailing you and helping you.  Thanks for letting me know.

So I guess you would need single slot, low profile in the GT-710. It looks like there are two low profile, single slot cards (model numbers). They all only draw a max of 25 watts.

The GT-705 was an Acer OEM part listed in my original post.

The GT-710 appears to a better card than GT-705.  I don't know for sure that the GT-710 will fit.

Here's a 90W adapter that you may be able to find on Acer Store.

You'll have to do some more research, emailing and googling to make sure everything will work.

    Good luck.

I think I can find the gt-710 in the US, two of the links you posted are in Canada. I'll have to wait until January or maybe February to buy it. Evga is selling it for $120. Thats outside my budget. I did see it on Newegg or similar site for under $50.

But I really would like an upgrade PSU if its available. If its not possible to put a larger power supply in this machine, I need to know that. I'm not refering to the 90 watt adapter.

I'm not aware of any way to add a converntional power supply.  I'm not saying it's not possible.  Sounds too risky to me.

For me personally, I would just get the single slot. low profile GT-710 off of newegg and grab a compatible 90W adapter from Acer Store and be done with it.  If that didn't work, I'd google for a GT-705 at a decent price.

You're looking at about $70 plus any tax or shipping.

You can search Acer Store for VN7-571G for compatible 90W adapter.

Now that I think of it, that GeForce 210 is a legacy card that might not even work for your computer no matter what since it's a legacy card.....and it might not support UEFI booting.

Good luck.  You'll have to contact Acer Store for more info.

The GeFore card works in my older desktop... I was just hoping to use it without having to make another purchase.

I'll have to wait until after January, 2017 to spend that much money on myself. I'll bookmark the Newegg link.

    Thanks.

    resolved.

Ok sounds good.  The newegg link that I previously posted was for the 2GB card.  The 1GB card can be had for considerably cheaper (with rebate card).

Edit: Or if you don't want to deal with the hassle of filling out rebate forms, you can shop around.  I've purchased items from BH photo in the past and haven't had any problems.

You can ask them in the GeForce forum if your GeForce 210 will work.  Maybe they'll know.
