Help! I'm not that computer literate.

My Acer Aspire S7, Windows 8.1, suddenly no longer recognize all my USB devices even though they used to be on the same labtop some 9 to 12 months ago.  These USB sticks work just fine on other model laptops and PCs.  However my wireless Logitech mouse USB is accepted by the laptop.  "Removable Disk" used to be visible on my c:\ folder directory but not anymore.  When an USB device is inserted or removed from the port there is still the usual audible sound coming through the laptop indicating the presence/absene of a USB stick.  All my older working files and photos are stored in these USB sticks and now I can't access them.  Can you help me please so I can access my data!  Many thanks.

    Sunset1,

If it is recognizing some USB devices, but not all, the USB ports are working. It could have something to do with changes to your operating system over the last 9-12 months, that is a lot of updates. You can try a refresh to see if that helps, it could just be some operating system files.

Try the power supply tip, unplug your computer then turn it on (to drain the capacitors), now plug your usb drives back in, plug the computer power back up, NOW turn it on. Hopefully this helps.
