T3-710 Aspire Screen Resolution

I have a T3-710 Aspire desktop which has a GTX745(oem) 4gb  graphics card installed. This card only has two connectors, HDMI and DVI.

I may well upgrade the card in future but for now it will do. I want a 2560 x 1440 monitor but not sure if the GTX745 will support this resolution.

The NVidia website states for gtx745 (oem)

4096x2160Maximum Digital Resolution
2048x1536Maximum VGA Resolution
It states 3 connections (hdmi, dvi and vga) but mine do not have vga.

How can NVidia state the card has a maximum resolution of 4096x2160 if the connectors do not support that resolution, confused.

Not an expert in monitors and gpu but I would I be right in saying that hdmi connector will restrict me to 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz.

I currently have a 24inch monitor connected via hdmi which is 1920x1200 so again confused because I read hdmi only supports 1920x1080.

Not sure what the DVI Dual would give me.

Any know if I can get 2560 x 1440

note that nVidia add this as foot note:

    2 - 3840x2160 at 30Hz or 4096x2160 at 24Hz supported over HDMI.

4096x2160 (including 3840x2160) at 60Hz supported over Displayport.

Support for 4k tiled MST displays requires 326.19 driver or later.

Are you sure that you connected the HDMI cable to the GTX745?

    Yes connected via hdmi.

    Running Windows 10.

Display Settings->advanced display settings shows 1900x1200

Clicking on Display adapter properties then the monitor tab says 59hz

    So, it's ok. Smiley Happy

when you connect via Digital connections (HDMI, DVI , Displayport) you can only set the native monitor resolution as maximum resolution.

So if I bought a monitor with native resolution 2560 x 1440 you think the gtx 745 would give me the option to use that resolution?

Acer support said I would only get 1920x1080 @60hz

the highest resolution i can find using 60Hz, is connecting a Dual Link DVI cable: 2560x1600 60Hz
but i'm not 100% sure about this spec, so...

for sure it will not work at this resolution using HDMI cable.

Ok thanks for your help IronFly.

I might go back to the store where I bought the machine and check with them.

I dont really do games ( on a pc)  so dont really want to upgrade card just to get 2560x1440 resoultion.

    Thanks for your replies, appreciated.

I will post for again once I discover what resolutions I can set.
