Hello all! I'm not much of a tech-head, so please be patient with me. Thank you in advance for your time.

I am running Win 7 Home Premium on a 1.0 TB HDD, which was pre-installed by Acer. I recently bought a 240 GB SSD, and want to make it my boot drive while storing my media on the HDD. I'd like to do a fresh install of Win 7 on the SSD, but Microsoft won't allow me to download a copy. Here is the error message after it validated my license key:

"The product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options."

Is there a way to legally get the same copy of Win7 that I own in order to install it on the SSD?

I've read a few articles on cloning/migrating, but I've also heard that cloning technically copies over the unused space as well, so even if I were to delete my media before the cloning process, I won't be able to fit everything onto the SSD.

Does anyone have any advice for me? Thank you all for your help!
