Optical drive of Aspire TC desktop ATC-710-EB51

Can anyone please tell me if the optical drive's TRAY requires CDs and DVDs to be clipped onto a hub, or are CDs and DVDs laid onto the tray as done on traditional optical drives?

Also, does anyone know if the factory optical drive in the model above can be replaced with a full size DVD or Blu-ray burner? From the looks of the factory drive, it appears to be a laptop type DVD drive fitted into an adaptor. If so, can a traditional full size drive be installed? Would that require cutting away some of the front panel?
