I have an Aspire XC-603 desktops and I recently purchased a another 2nd hand unit for backup. On the 'new' machine after the bios POST I get a black screen and a message:

"Insert boot media in selcted boot device and press a key"

If I take the hdd and put it in the second machine it boots ok. I have done the following:

- ensured that both machines have the same bios settings

- checked that the drive is seen in the bios

- checked the boot order

- switched the CMOS batteries and memory over

- disabled secure boot

The only conclusion is that the mainboard is damaged in some way? Is there anything else that I should check for, BIOS update perhaps?

Thanks,

Rob.

    Hi

    2 machines  A and B?

    1 works and 1 doesn't.

So machine A boots with either HDD?

But machine B will not boot with either?

If so it suggests a problem with the BIOS or the mainboard.

I should have mentioned that i had already tried switching the ports and a different SATA cable.

if it still fails to boot using another HDD too...as stated is a BIOS or motherboard issue.

by the way, as last resort, i would try to do a clean windows install.
