Acer AM 1100 desktop CPU originally equipped with two 1M RAM sticks. Crucial.com scan show the motherboard supports 8M RAM. I installed a pair of 2M sticks for a total of 6M. Computer properties show 6M installed yet only 3.25M is usable.  What am I missing?

    Hello,

    1. Could you give me the first ten characters of the computer serial number (S/N)? Only the first ten.
    2. Which Crucial memory modules P/N did you install?
    3. What OS do you use? 32 or 64-bit?

    Hello,

That's normal. OS 32-bit supports up to 4Gb and the maximum amount of usuable memory is from 3.12 to 3.5Gb. 4Gb - hardware reserved memory=3.12 to 3.5Gb. If you want 6Gb, you have to switch to the 64-bit version.
