Can Failing Hard Drive be Cloned, Acer Laptop

The 5 year old 320 GB hard drive on my Acer 7740 laptop is getting very sluggish and is slowly running out of space. I tried to clone this drive to 1 TB hybrid drive but could not get Microsoft updates to work. The error message given when this occurred stated the browser settings on Internet Explorer had been changed. When I tried to check for Microsoft updates Internet Explorer would stop working temporarily. The laptop is an i3 quad core with 4 GB ram and is very good condition. If I cannot clone then I will have to repurchase various program software such as Microsoft office as I’m sure you realize.  Is there some way to correct the problem with the Internet Explorer browser or are there other options that would allow me to continue use the programs that I have paid for on a new larger drive. I would very much appreciate any help or comments any one may have. I would be glad to furnish additional information if need. Thank you for your help, Oscar1

    oscar1,

If you have a legit version of Microsoft Office you should not need to purchase another copy, just install it and use the product key on the packaging. If challenged with the product key Microsoft does have ways to have it manually activated.

Thank you for your reply and information about reusing the Microsoft, it is legit. I would really like to get the clone to work because it so straight forward. I do not understand why there is a problem with Microsoft not down loading and installing updates. As stated previously Internet Explorer crashes and get a couple different error messages. One error message is that "update are not turned on" on my computer. If you have any suggestions on this problem I would greatly appreciated it. I'm going to accept your reply as solution but I am going to post again and explain the problem differently. Thank you again, Oscar1
