Aspire x1470 network adapter issues

Just got fiber optic internet service for my x1470. Cable TV and wifi both work wonderfully but the desktop refuses to acknowledge there's an ethernet cord plugged into the appropriate port. Checked with a cord that I know to be working and nothing. Downloaded a Windows 10 specific driver and installed. Still nothing. Device Manager lists ports but no network adapter. Help?

Any exclamation mark visible on Device manager?

if not, there's no sign of any ethernet adapter, so at this point, i think it's dead.

When you connect the ethernet cable to the PC port, can you see any light blinking?

    check also this:

    windows logo key + x

    Command prompt (admin)

    type

    ipconfig /all

check if any ethernet adapter is listed

There doesn't seem to be a light of any sort where the ethernet cable plugs into the tower. The IP configuration lists a host name, a Primary DNS suffix- blank, a node type- hybrid, an IP routing enabled- no, and a WINS proxy enabled- no.

    ok, last check

    windows logo key + x

    device manager

click on View tab and click on Show hidden devices

    click on Network adapters

    any presence of ethernet adapter?

    try also

    windows logo key + x

    command prompt (admin)

    type

    netsh winsock reset

close the command prompt when done

    reboot

    still dead ethernet connection?

if so, or it's disabled from BIOS or it's dead.

There are now, under, network adapters, five previously hidden items:

    Microsoft ISATAP adapter
    Microsoft Kernel Debug Network adapter
    Microsoft WiFi Direct Virtual Adapter
Net gear WNDA4100 N900 wireless dual band adapter
    Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface

Also, there's a new category- Network Infrastructure Devices with a R7000 (Gateway) as its sole entry.

Hoping one of these will solve the problem. No earthly idea which one. Smiley Wink Thanks!

Addendum: all but the Kernel Debug, when I checked the five hidden items' properties, say "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer(code 45)" To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer. Does that mean the card itself attached to the motherboard?

    windows logo key + x

    command prompt (admin)

    type

    netsh winsock reset

close the command prompt when done

    reboot

then check again on device manager

Have the ethernet port ever worked?

This computer hasn't been connected for a year and a half and, if I remember correctly, it was hooked up broadband through the telephone line then.

    do this:

reboot your PC, during boot press Del to enter BIOS

then go to Advanced - Integrated peripherals - On board LAN controller enabled

check if it's enabled, if not, enable it and then press F10 to save and exit, let it reboot and check if LAN connection is working.

The onboard LAN controller was enabled but one right below it in the list- something about LAN and optional and ROM, wasn't, so I enabled that. Still no connection.

All ports and adapters except for the kernel debug thing listed as not connected to the computer.

On the events for Microsoft ISATAP adapter, the information- under Events, says "Device SWD\IP_TUNNEL_VBUS\ISATAP_0 requires further installation".

Same with the Teredo Tunnel and the Netgear WNDA4100. The Microsoft WiFi Direct Virtual Adapter's events are different

Not a one. Is that something I can pick up at a computer store and plug in or is it integrated in the x1470? Thanks for all your help, btw. I used to think I was at least partially tech literate but...

you have 2 choices, in my opinion:

    1) buy an USB wifi dongle and use wifi connection

    2) disable from BIOS the integrated ethernet LAN adapter and go buy a PCI-Ex LAN card

(you will need to open the PC case and insert the LAN card on motherboard slot)

any computer shop will be able to do it.

    just some examples:

One more question. I could run USB to USB from the modem to the computer. Would that work or is that the same nonfunctional card?

    Nah, not a good solution.

One more question. Are those PCI cards pretty much universal or is compatibility an issue? If the latter, is there somewhere I can go to check compatibility for an x1470? Thanks for you patience and help.

    99% no compatibility issue.

can you please check one last thing on your X1470?

    windows logo key +r

    type

    msinfo32

    please report BIOS DATE/version
