Hello,

My wifes PC is an Aspire XC-703 with a 2To HDD. She had more and more problems with it and finally the HDD is going to die, sometimes very slow, freezing, and now impossible to make W8.1 working. I used it as a secondary drive to test it and we saved (with difficulties) the datas on my own PC, and bought a new HDD similar to the original.

The problem is that now I can't boot on anything, I mean neither CD drive or USB to reinstall Windows and we haven't any backup CD.

Then I installed W7 on the new HDD on my own PC and put it in the XC-703, it doesn't work. Same thing with W8.1.

After many researches, it noticed that Bios Version is PB11.B1 and I guess that's why I'm blocked.

Does anyone knows how to update the Bios ? or where to download a Windows version that could work with it ? (in order to update the Bios and install W7) or any tips that could help ?

Regards,

Michaël

PS : sorry for the mistakes, I don't use to speak English.

    Hi

Name / Make of the BIOS like Phoenix or AMI or Award or ......

Some BIOS makers provide a DOS Disk based method, others only Windows based.

Look at Macrium Reflect, IF the old HDD will mount and run ONCE attached to your PC and you can attach the NEW then a clone / copy should be possible.

There is a "free" version and it may just be your salvation.

There may be linux OS that could help as well...

Boot Repair in 32 or 64 bit versions... https://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair/home/Home/

    If in doubt please ask.

    Hi

The BIOS is AMI I think and a zip file containing multiple files.  2015/11/04  Version:  P11.B4  Vendor: Acer  Size:  3.3 MB

it has explanation files in the appendix for a flash install. BIOS_Acer_P11.B4_A_A.zip/Appendix/EFI%20Flash.pdf

NB: Secure Boot is usually needed to install and Run Windows, you may have a system conflict with Secure / Legacy boot.

    Also this may help...

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

To get a iso that can be installed onto a DVD, USB AND I HAVE extracted it directly onto a 6GB partition of a HDD as a backup recovery.  DVD writer or RUFUS USB creator.

The above are all attempts to help, unfortunately I can only guess at your situation.

    Hello,

Thank you for your answers Smiley Happy

I believed the problem was that BIOS didn't allow another version of windows (different of the one that was installed).

In fact the new HDD was a MBR partition structures while Acer Bios needed a GPT one. On my PC (ASUS motherboard) MBR and GPT are allowed.

Then I converted the HDD as GPT and installed Windows 10. Next I updated the BIOS from P11.B1 to P11.B4 and it works very well.

    The problem is solved now.

Best regards, from France Smiley Very Happy
