Aspire 5738 PowerSmart Manager Application 4.05.3004. Shuts down upon disconnnect from power source.
Hello,
The Aspire 5738 is running on Windows 7, 64-bit. It used to heat up and shut down every few minutes. Installed PowerSmart Manager Application 4.05.3004. The problem of shutting down by itself is solved, but now the laptop shuts down immediately when disconnected from the power source.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi. Could you confirm the laptop doesn't shuts down immediately if the adapter is removed? If you uninstall the power smart application? If it shut's down with and without the power smart application It could be a hardware issue. If the unit didn't shutdown with out the power smart application it is a software issue. Check if the unit has any BIOS update or patches. Thank you.0

You could try a battery and adapter driver reset. 1. press and hold the windows key with your left hand and then tap on the letter X key with your right hand. 2. Then select devise manager from the list. 3. Right click on Microsoft AC adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant control method battery and chose uninstall. 4. Click on Action tab on top of the window and chose scan for hardware changes.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ A KUDOS is appreciate and remember to mark "Accept as Solution",If i was helpful, the post that solved your problem. Thank you, Alfin72.
I tried the solution you offered, but there is no effect. Meanwhile I have updated to Windows 10. The same problem persists. To reiterate:
Before installing PowerSmart Manager Application 4.05.3004:
(1)The laptop would heat up and shut down every 10 minutes or so.
After installing PowerSmart Manager Application 4.05.3004:
(1) If the power cord is disconnected, the laptop doesn't power on using the battery.
(2) The laptop shuts down immediately if the power cord is disconnected during use.
It seems that PowerSmart Manager Application 4.05.3004 solves one problem, but creates another!
Kindly look into the issue. A resolution is much appreciated!
Thank you, once again!
