Hi guys,

I am extremely fond of my Acer Aspire 8735G, T6600 and would like to upgrade the CPU.

I have already upgraded the PC with a 240GB SSD and 8 GB or RAM.

I want to do a final upgrade of the CPU and read that one of the 8735G models came out with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9550 (6 MB L2 cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB, 35 W).

Is this correct, and will the processor be able to be swopped for the T6600 that I have?

What adjusments need to be made ?

I am not a tech guy so I'd appreciate lay man's language please.

Thanks in advance

    Hello,

Here are the original processors of Aspire 8735G:

    Spoiler
    KC.64001.DTPCPU.DUO.T6400/2.0G/2M/800/R0
    KC.65001.DTPCPU.DUO.T6500/2.1G/2M/800/R0
    KC.66001.DTPCPU.DUO.T6600/2.2G/2M/800/R0 (yours)
    KC.73501.DPPCPU.DUO.M-2.00GHz/3MB/1066/M0
    KC.74501.DPPCPU.PDUO.P7450/2.13G/1066/M0
    KC.74501.DPRCPU INTEL CORE2DUAL P7450
    KC.75501.DPPCPU INTEL CORE2DUAL P7550 PGA
    KC.86R01.DPPCPU.2DUO.P8600/2.4G/3M/1066
    KC.87R01.DPPCPU.2DUO.P8700/2.53G/1066/R0
    KC.88R01.DPPCPU INTEL CORE2DUAL P8800 PGA
    KC.95501.DTPCPU.DUO.T9550.2.66G/1066/35W (new)

All models are equipped with the same motherboard and the same heatsink.

What adjusments need to be made ?

None, the bios update will be done "automatically" as Windows.

    Remark:

I suggest you to buy ESD gloves. You should find them in an electronic shop. Cheaper but very useful to prevent some damage.

Edit---- Sorry didn't know was replided and answered. had to step away in the middle of writing this. So that is why this edit was added.

Can be done and I just wonder why you would want to go from a 2.2 to a 2.6 Why not pay a little more and take the computer to 3.06.. We did this swap back in the day when the CPU was out of the world in price. Today you can find them from around 60 to 100 and yes I understand that the T9550 can be picked up these days for under 20 but would the preformance be that much? Also I don't know if it matters but the T9550 is on a 479 socket and the T6600 and X9100 is on the 478 Socket. I don't know if that matters or not.

The hardest part has already been done before. Getting into your laptop. Seeing that you have already replaced your Ram and HDD I am sure that task will be easy this time around.

Then there are if I remember right 8 screws that will need to be Removed, Then lift back side near Ram/SSD up slight while you slide it back and up to move the fan and cooler unit out. oh and the wire connecter that is about center of your cooler. Then to put back make sure you add some nice Thermal Grease and put it all back on. Bios should do the rest for you.

In the end. I don't know about the T9550 seeing the upgrade I did a few years back was from the T6600 to the Intel Core2 Xtreme X9100. IT worked well for my son for a couple of years before he gave it to a Friend. ONly thing he said was that it did get warmer then the T6600 and wasn't to big of an issue as it worked well and he never had any complaints.

Good luck and let us know how your upgrade went. Would love to hear how things turn out and good for others that would want to do same.

    Hi James,

Kind of you to reply just the same.

Its true, it might be a little silly to upgrade by such a little (2.2 - 2.6) but since the PC came out with the T9550 with no major changes, I thought it wouldnt tax the system much and keep everything within operable temperatures/loads etc...

Regarding the socket, I wish I knew what to tell you ! I really don't understand this stuff....

I looked up the processors and found that the T6600 supported socket is PGA478.

and the T9550 is PGA478 and BGA479 so looks like it will match but again not sure if this means there are 2 types of these T9550 processors

Well look forward to your feedback

    Thanks

    Hello andrst1,

    T9950 - E0 (2.66GHz) exists in two versions:

    Socket BGA479: AV80576GH0676MG (SLGEL)

    Socket PGA478: AW80576GH0676MG (SLGE4) you'll need this one.

Don't forget to clean the surfaces and apply a new thermal paste/compound.

Hi guys, so finally the follow up to my little PC revival project.

So after having finally recieved the CPU T9550 in the post today, I installed it and am now using it. All is well regarding the change but the LCD screen is giving a few problems.

Just to recap I had bought and installed the SSD and the 8 Gb RAM but needed to reinstall Win 7 as I had a problem when cloning the SSD in Windows 10. So having reinstalled Windows 7 64 Bit SP1, I then installed the CPU T9550 which was accepted by Win 7 without a problem. Finally with the CPU installed and PC working well within reasonable temperature parameters, I decided to install Windows 10.

So now all is working well.....except for the screen unfortuantely. The screen occasionally, when pressing the PC body causes the LCD screen to flicker and get red lines. If I am lucky I might press it again and it will work properly but otherwise i need to shutdown if i can still see what is happening.

I have not read up about it yet and presume it is some sort of connection or earthing but if you have any suggestions Id definitely love to hear them.

    Thanks for your input

    Best reagards

    Andrew

It almost sounds like something when you put it back together might be in a Pinch! I say this becasue you state that if you press on the unit it will flash and to me sounds like when you press it is causing something to short out... I know it is a lot of work to take these things apart but I would say remove everything like your going to do the install again and see if there is a wire/cable that might have not made it where it needed to go.. Seeing it is a laptop and made to move around not something you want to have going on as in the end could have bad results

    Hi James,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes you're right it is probably best to undo everything again.

I'll let you know if I figure it out.

    regards

    Hello,

You press on the keyboard or on the LCD bezel?

    Check the eDP connector/cable.

    Hi Laurent,

I press around the keyboard when attempting to lift the laptop up. Last i remember i tried lifting fromthe right bottom corner where the sticker is with all the ACER Specs and model.
