Internet won't work on my AX3400-E4502, but USB and sound inputs are okay. Have plugged the internet cable into a laptop and it works fine so it's not our internet connection. Thinking motherboard is going and we may have to get a new computer, but thought I'd check here as a last resort before buying something new.

Thanks for any ideas you may have.

Ok, reading the ipconfig i found that the default gateway IP address is missing.

Since you have DHCP enabled, your router and ethernet chipset are fighting each other.

You can try to reboot your modem and your PC and see if this can solve the DHCP assignement.

if not, i would suggest you to try this:

    1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.

    2. Right-click Command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

    3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.

    4. on the Command prompt type   netsh int ip reset c:\reset.txt
    5.  press enter
    6.  then type    netsh winsock reset
    7. press enter
    8. close the Command prompt
    9. reboot  your pc

    Thanks for your reply!

I'm not so tech savvy but it says that NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet device is working properly.

Lights up when I plug and unplug cable. Its just not making the final connection.

Not sure how to check its status in BIOS

ok, no problem with BIOS, since it's available on device manager.

do you have any error message?

    installed OS?

Hi, looks like my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium

No error message, on my network and sharing center it's just not acknowledging the ethernet, even though it lights up upon connection. It tells me to investigage router or broadband modem issues but as I mentioned the ethernet cable coming from the modem works on another laptop so it's not the issue.

Wondering if there might be some sort of short in the computer/motherboard as USB ports and sound have been intermittent over time. I've put up with it because it ends up working eventually (I haven't pulled all my hair out yet).

But unfortunately the ethernet port hasn't kicked in again yet  :-(

Can you open a command prompt, windows key logo + r
    Type cmd
Inside the command prompt please type:
    Ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt

Then look inside your user folder for a file "ipconfig.txt", delete the mac address, then attach the files here or copy/paste the text.

    Thanks so much, IronFly!
Shutting down the desktop, rebooting the router and turning them both back on did the trick!

We had an abrupt power shutdown last week due to winds, do you think that may have caused the ethernet port to stop working?

Really appreciate your quick responses (and so do the hairs on my head that I didn't pull out! ;-)

    Thanks again...

    All the best,

    Suzie

power shutdowns can make even worst things on electronic devices, so it's possible that messed up something on PC or modem side too.

i remember over 1 hour lost on tracing down an issue on a building sector without internet connection (over 20 PCs and 15 barcode scanners), until i did a reboot on a managed switch and all comes alive. (even if some other connections from this switch worked, a power failure blocked some ports)
