I received one of these for christmas and yesterday it overheated and then turned off, when I turned it back on the screen does not show a picture all it shows is agrey screen with white lines in it.

Sounds like a graphics problem, have you tried a soft reset of the device with a pin or paper clip. If this does not work you may have to resort to a hard reset and wipe the device.
