Godd luck Keyplr. Pls let us know if you get a replacement, if the new unit is happier with W7.
What holiday? Ah! You're in America...
Cheers!

And another thing: someone tagged the post as "Solved". Probably the Administrator. I don't think it has been solved. Not nice the dismissal... Remove the tag please.

Already sent a PM about that.

Breaking News (!): This morning I connected the Acer to the PC and this time I cannot see one folder at all! The Fiction folder disappeared. Before I could see at least half of the sub-folders...
Also, Windows could not install the drivers for CLOVERVIEW! Very weird this behaviour...
Cheers!
Not good at all both issues.
Ok after checking your "hardwareIDs" i can confirm, those drivers can't match the ID, at least on "acermtp.inf".
Now i'm checking if i can find something around.
EDIT: nothing.
the only "solution" to try, is to modify the "acermtp.inf" strings (use notepad):
under both [Generic.NTx86] and [Generic.NTamd64]
add:
%GenericMTP.DeviceDesc%=DriverInstall, USB\VID_0502&PID_3603
save and try to install manually again.
i know, that's not the best solution but if it works, i can send it as fix on drivers.

Thanks ironFly,
It was a good try but it did not work. I changed the installation settings to not automatically install the drivers, edited the .INF file and did it manually but still the same. After that, a folder with 249 subfolders would display only 15 subfolders. Every day a different result.
As I said, I use a file manager over the WiFi so I do not need it anymor but I am really curious about the fixing and of course, this would help other users.
Thanks for your efforts.
Cheers!

Hi All, the original poster of the topic marked this as solved but we agree this topic needs more discussion. Therefore I removed the solved flag.

When the A1-830 is plugged in you'll have an icon in the notification bar in the upper left. You should be able to click on the USB notification and it will take you to settings. Here you should have the options of MTP or PTP. With PTP I get the original error that kepylyr stated, so I would try to change that. With MTP, I connected without issue and could copy/paste files from the PC to Tablet and Tablet to PC without issue.
I'm not sure why the folders aren't showing up when viewing via Windows, I really don't believe we're talking about a driver issue. If you could provide step by step instructions on what applications you're using to create them I'll see if we can duplicate the issue.
BTW, I'm currently running 4.2.2. I'm going to update in a minute and try again to see if the options change.

Hi AcerCore,
Thanks for your reply.
I am not using really any special application. All I do is:
1-Unit is connected via MTP
2-Unit is ON and then connect to the (any) USB port (either 2.0 or 3.0)
3-Windows beeps indicating a new connection and, if the first time or if the device has been uninstalled by me, starts installing the drivers.
4-Fails installing drivers for CLOVERVIEW
5-Fails installing drivers for Android
6-Opening My Computer, Windows Explorer shows that the device A1-830 is hanging in there
7-Clicking on the device A1-830 we can see two items: Internal storage and SD card (my inserted SD card)
8-Opening the SD card it displays the main folders and sub folders. This varies day to day. Sometimes half the folders, sometimes none at all but always incomplete. I use either Windows Explorer or Total Commander. Results are the same.
I tried to install those drivers (CLOVERVIEW and Android) download from Intel site to no avail.
Again, the drivers installed are not Acer drivers, are Microsoft's. Manually Windows does not accept the supplied drivers and insists in saying that it has already the best drivers installed. I know this above is a repetition of the discussed but just to keep the thread alive...

The part that gets me is the partial display of folders. That indicates to me that some of the data being provided over the USB cable is being corrupted. Similar to what you might see on a hard drive with corrupted sectors. The fact that they change at intervals makes me think it's not the data at the SD card itself but rather either what's being pushed to the USB cable on the Android side, what's being pulled from the USB cable on the Windows side, or the cable itself. I believe you have tried a different cable... Have you tried when the tablet is both on it's charger and off? I'm realling leaning more toward hardware than software. (The Microsoft driver is the generic driver for a block based filesystem, not the Acer driver for the USB connection)

Yes, it is interesting. There are times when it display 90% of the folders and then won't display any.
Yes, I tried 3 different microUSB cables including the short one that came with the device that I suspected first.
Yes, I tried with the unit on and off. If it is off, just connecting the cable, it starts attempts to install the CLOVERVIEW and Android drivers and after a while, "no drivers found". After booting the device the "Portable Device" A1-830 appears - incomplete...
Yes, I tried as well with/without the charger.
If, as you say, the Microsoft driver is not the (for) Acer then we do not have a proper driver installed what takes us back to point zero...
The processor is an Atom and the driver from Intel should work, theoretically anyway but every manufacturer changes the guts of every machine.
It could be hardware as you suggested. Not the PC I believe as I tried on another PC and also on my laptop (Acer Travelmate) and had the same results. I might, when I get my car back (she's sick being serviced) take the unit to Harvey Norman (the retailer) and see if they allow me to connect it to one of their PCs. Usually they are cleaner than ours at home without "bad habits" and see how it goes...
