About a week ago, I turned on my laptop to find that it was running a lot slower than usual. For example, it kind of lags while I type this at certain points. Also, whilst watching YouTube videos, every couple of seconds it'll lag and freeze a little bit. At first I thought this was a YouTube problem, but then I realised everything I do seems slower. Also it seems to be taking longer to shutdown, load pages etc. I've tried to solve the problem by cleaning the registry, emptying the recycle bin (I had over 16GB of unwanted files in there), stopping unnecessary services from running at start-up etc. Nothing I have done has made my laptop stop being slow. Is it a hard drive problem? Is it because my laptop gets quite heated fairly quickly? Do I need to clean out the fan or something?
Any solutions to my problem would be much obliged. I can still use the laptop fine, but I worry that it might eventually get slower and laggier until it becomes unusable.

There is not way for us to know specifically what has occurred with your computer, and no way for us to pinpoint it from the information we have.
Have you attempted to rollback Windows to a date prior to when you noticed the slow down?
