Thank you!

Another potentially inexpensive/free option works well. If you have an unwanted smaller external hard drive, you can use this for a recovery backup.

I got mine successfully created a recovery from this tool.
Plus, set power to high performance and format USB as non-quick format.
Thanks!

Well I have tried all of these ideas:
High performance, disabled USB sleep, Formatted drive, quick off, set power to never, ran the patch which failed so I assume oK etc. etc.
Tried 2 different drives in all 3 USB ports, still stopping right at the end.
Is there anything else apart from a complete factory reset and start all over again?
Many thanks.
PS mine is a Aspire V5 571P

I must suggest contacting your local service team about aquiring a set of recovery disks. Acer does not have direct downloads of Microsoft operating systems, and any link that someone may provide to you would be removed.

Same problem: multiple efforts with quick formatted 32gb usb drive; installed microsoft updates (all 78 of'em) - tried again - no good - installed "The Fix" from acer - took 3 goes - worked 3rd time - no good: then - long reformat (FAT 32) and all those other things about not letting anything turn off at all ever in advanced power management and yup I have a drive - now do I add the utilities to it or use a separate drive or not bother?
