how do i disable touchpad

Problems with keyboard result in letters selected not entered or placed in incorrect position or lost altogether.

The company that sold me the product suggested I disable the touchpad and see whether using a wireless mouse solves the problem.

First, I am using a mouse for entering text, albeit with touchpad in use simultaneously and secondly, I don't know how to disable touchpad!

Is anyone having similar problems and how can I disable touchpad?  Thanks

Two thoughts come immediately to mind.

First, cut out a cardbopard square (cereal boxes work great for this) and tape it in place over the touchpad.  This will eliminate the errant activity created by unintentional bumps on the touchpad while typing. If this solves your problema and you really want to disable the device, keep reading.

Second, if you really want to disable the touchpad, it can be done in Device Manager in the Control Panel. Right click over the touchpad device name and select disable.

Hope this helps.

The easiest way to disable touch pad is through the function keys. Check for the function key which has a touch pad picture on it. Make sure that your palm is not touching the touch pad while you are typing that leads to erratic moment of the mouse pointer.

Alternatively, (for Elan Touchpad) a more permanent solution can be achieved by opening 'Mouse Properties' and click 'Stop Device' from the 'ELAN' tab.
Rather than stopping the device, try ticking the 'Disable when external USB pointing device plugged in'.
You should find easy access to the 'ELAN Pointing Device' (which opens 'Mouse Properties') on your taskbar. It may be hidden in the pop-up list box.
For me, should I ever need to disable, I find FN + F7 easiest as suniljp suggested.

I would never have thought of a Cornflake packet! (I should learn to think outside the box!!!) :smileylol:
