e recovery, can't boot

Hello, I have an acer aspire 6930 with vista. I made a mistake in the erecovery part by clicking on recover/repair with CD, and it rebooted and now it won't load up windows at all. I can't even get into safe mode. I do have recovery CDs but they don't seem to be working (and yes, I tried booting from CD drive- I think it maybe the discs themselves aren't good anymore :smileysad: )

I tried hitting alt f10 at start up (not sure if this model even has this option) but all I get up is windows\system32\boot\winload.exe and some other stuff and to hit enter...and when I do it just goes to the blue screen with errors.
It says to check and disable anti virus, recovery options and run chkdsk   this is the same thing that comes up when trying to boot before

there's gotta be a way to fix this?? :smileysad: if possible I'd like to try and save the files on the drive too. it was working fine before this.

Hi

I have similar problem, Vista screwed up during a WINDOWS update, recovery is corrupt, eRecovery does not work.

No recovery disc, support page is as good as ****. first thing monday I am calling the support number and mabee they may help, I refuse to upgrade to windows 8, and this 6920G is not worh spending $$$ on a new OS, I am scared of other compatability problems with the Win8 and Vista/Windows 7 drivers that are available on the support download page.

Regards

     Adrian.

Re: e recovery, can't boot

Let me try to help both of you. You do realize that your machines are around 4.5 to 5.5 years old and are probably feeling their age.

MSK, it sounds like your hard drive files got corrupted, so there's hope. If you take it to a good computer shop, they can probably get into your system and restart it for a low price. You seem to be competent enough that you have done everything that can be done without special training and equipment.

Adrian, you could try going back to a System Restore Point. If you can't, I agree with you that upgrading to Windows 8 is a mistake. Your five year old Windows Vista machine is probably unable to use the necessary drivers, if they even exist. For about twice what you would pay for a Windows 8 DVD, you can buy a new laptop that has 8 installed.

Some other options, Adrian, are to try to borrow a legal Vista DVD, put it into your optical drive, and reboot. It MIGHT take you to some repair options. Rebooting in Safe Mode and running a deep scan with your antivirus is another option, if it is possible. And if all else fails, that's a nice machine you have there. A good computer shop can likely get into your system and restart it for you.

Hope this helps.
