can I install an executable program file on Drive D which is designated "data"

I have an old Extensa 4420.  BTW.  It has operated flawlessly for all the tasks that I have used it for.  It has been reliable, durable, and peformed well.

The old Extensa only has 140 gig of hard drive space divided into two partitions.  Drive c has all the programs and drive D is designated as a "data" .   The drive C only has a couple of gigs left which is not enough to hold a fairly heavy graphic editor I want to install.  As you Acer geeks know, much of Drive C is filled with Acer proprietary stuff which perhaps some can be uninstalled.  Don't know if that would mess up the registry.   BUT, that is not the question at hand...........

I have pleny of room on the data partition, Drive D.   Just want to know if an executable file will work from that drive?

Thanks.

Hi 1-2-, It doesn't matter where you execute an executable. The Operating System has the capability of running. For example, when you save a video in your "Data Drive", you can running it. To have 2 partitions means a divide in a house to separe 2 rooms, but the house is still there and you can get in whenever you want to do whatever you want.

I hope it has been helpful

It is done and is working fine.  Thanks again.

still going to have to get a new laptop when this activity fills up the D partition with data which will be quicker now with a graphics application on that drive.  :smileylol:

Alternately you might be able to shrink the D drive and expand the C drive as needed. Run diskmgmt.msc to find out.

Well, I always have though that is not necesary to change a machines until this one hasn't die. As an alternative you can buy another hard disk with more space for data, most laptop accepts the replacement. Love your machine. That could be the next slogan of ACER, perhaps ahhhahaa.
