aspire one d255e black screen

I picked up an AOD255E netbook that seems to work fine using the VGA output but the LCD is black and never show any signs of life. I've found procedures to download a BIOS update, rename the data file and flash the BIOS from a USB drive that frequently restores the LCD functionality for older models but I cannot find any simjular procedures for the AOD255E. Does anhyone know of a similar procedure for this model that might do the trick or am I going to have to replace the inverter and panel to get this going?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: aspire one d255e black screen

this could be an issue with the ribbon cable for the LCD to Main board.

Re: aspire one d255e black screen

I disassembled the panel and reseated the connector from the main chassis, and it didn't help. But when I checked it later I realized the LCD is working but there's just no backlight. Is there a seperate inverter board for this model or is the backlight and its electronics an integral part of the LCD panel?

Thanks

Re: aspire one d255e black screen

I've been searching for several days and I cannot seem to determine if the AOD255E even has an external inverter board for the LED backlight. I can tell that the backlight is the problem but there is only one sheilded ribbon cable from the main chassis to the LCD and I cannot see an inverter board tucked away anywhere. Can anyone tell me if I am fairly safe purchasing the LCD panel from a parts house and have a good chance the the backlight is built-in to the assembly, or is there in fact an inverter involved? The AOD255E is the only Aspire Netbook that I can find lots of cheap replacement LCD panels but no mention of an inverter.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: aspire one d255e black screen

Since there is no external inverter for LED backlit screens like the AOD255E I decided to try and replace the LCD panel. No luck - I can barely see video with it held at the righ angle and the VGA output works fine but no backlight. Does anyone know the procedure for trying the BIOS flash for black screen on the AOD255E? I can try replacing the cable that connects the LCD to the motherboard but if that doesn't work I'm out of luck on this. here is a procedure for other Aspire One notebooks that fixes this by renaming the binary and flashing the bios but not a peep anywhere on the internet about the specifics for doing this with the AOD255E netbook. If anyone has the poop on this please let me know. It would be highly appreciated.
