aspire 7535g died after bios flash. wrong bios posted on acer website!?

I downloaded the latest bios for acer aspire 7535g from the acer support site. I flashed it from dos now the laptop is dead. The bios file is named jv70-pu but now I opened my laptop and I found out that the motherboard is not jv70-pu but a different model: jm70-pu so I believe acer website has the wrong bios and now my laptop is dead. I am calling acer technicians here, what is the correct bios for the JM70-PU and where can I download it?

Re: aspire 7535g died after bios flash. wrong bios posted on acer website!?

Chris,

There has not been an update to the AS7535g BIOS since 2009. I believe that it's unlikely that the BIOS version is incorrect since it's been posted for over 3 years without issue.  We will do a review to give you a more definitive answer (please excuse the delay as we are in the middle of the holidays) next week.

If you would, could you provide us with your Serial Number?

Re: aspire 7535g died after bios flash. wrong bios posted on acer website!?

of course:

Model: Acer Aspire 7535G

SNID 91912307720

S/N LXPCE0X0869191E0C52000

ok but how is it possible that if it's the correct bios after flashing with no errors the pc is dead?

Can you provide a copy of the original 1.04c bios that was in the MB before flashing?

I was not able to backup it before flashing as the phlash16 started the flash procedure without asking anything.

Re: aspire 7535g died after bios flash. wrong bios posted on acer website!?

by the way, to explain why I did a bios update, the pc had thermal problems, the fan did not spin correctly. I monitored cpu  temperature and it went all over 95 degrees without the fan spinning. This led to system shuts down, sometimes the fan started spinning correctly. The fan was free from dust as I cleaned it very carefully.

I read on acer website bios updates can cure thermal problems so I tried it but now the pc is dead.

The phoneix bios crisis disk procedure works, bios is read from usb removable device but regardless of this pc can't start.

I also read many people complaining about thermal problems and sudden shuts off for this model.

Re: aspire 7535g died after bios flash. wrong bios posted on acer website!?

To confirm what Acer-Cory stated above, the BIOS listed for the Aspire 7535G is for several systems:

Aspire 7535, 7535G, 7235, and 7235G

It was released in 2009.  The file names do not indicate that it is not for the system that you have.

These particular BIOS updates are listed to contain keyboard controller updates.

It sounds very much like the system stopped working coincidentally to the flashing of the BIOS.

Re: aspire 7535g died after bios flash. wrong bios posted on acer website!?

I too have had this very unfortunate issue occur. I have an Acer aspire 7535.  I downloaded the posted bios update. after a failed attempt using the windows application I created a bootable USB key and ran the program from DOS.  Update finished and seemed to work correctly but not so. after restarting, black screen, no beeps no post.  Now I'm stuck with a paper weight. Acer Techs, can you please provide the original Bios or a solution?  There was nothing wrong with the laptop prior.  I Choose to update the bios like any other update to keep the laptop running at its best.  Thanks.

If there is not a problem being addressed it is NOT recommended to flash the BIOS.

We would suggest contacting technical support in your region for further assistance with this issue.
