Why does the cursor on my keyboard constantly skip around when I type?

My cursor is constantly jumping around while I type. It chooses to jump to the subject line, highlights the entire sentence I am currenlty typing.  The cursor is completely obnoxious.  If I don't catch it while it is hopping around, I end up sending out correspodence with typing errors.  Its not too empressive when applying for jobs.  Do I need to take it into the shop?
