Why does my Acer Aspire 6920g keeps freezing when I use Internet Explore or Google Chrome?

I have discovered than when I use either IE or GC my laptop suddenly freezes and I have to hold on the power off button for at least 5 seconds until I switch it off. This started happening after I formatted my laptop and I installed a fresh copy of Win 7 the Ultimate editions 32-bits. I have also noticed that even if I don't use any of the internet browsers and I leave it still few minutes later freezes unexpectedly. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Forgot to say that this is definately not an overheating issue.

first thing that would be suggested is to restore the default software
