The microphone in my new tablet is useless! I bought this device so I could use Skype on the move but it just isn't working. I have tried optimizing the sound settings for the microphone but although I can up the volume a tiny amount, I still only get a muffled, warbling rendition of my voice. My contacts are unable to understand me so do I have to spring for a USB external mic or can this br fixed?

Have you try to reinstall the sound driver?
If still can't, I would recommend you to restore as the last resort.

I reinstalled the Realtek driver, jacked the mic levels up to 100% as well as boost and speakers and I still get a muffled sound. I have to speak pretty loud with the tablet's mic facing me to get an intelligible test. Completely useless for Skyping. Beginning to look like another hardware snafu like the bluetooth/wifi circus. I worry about the quality of the internal components of this tablet and I wish I had tested everything before leaving the store (but that would have taken all day). I see no other settings for the mic so it looks like I made a bad (expensive) choice this time.
