Hello,
I'm running a Acer Aspire 3830tg with the JM30_HR motherboard. I recently found out that it supports UEFI.
Is it enough that the motherboard supports it? Does acer support a UEFI boot on this machine. How do i enable it? Has anyone switched their 3830tg to a UEFI boot?
Also, i've noticed a BIOS update is available, 1.12. I currrently have 1.05 installed. Should i update it before switching to UEFI? Does a BIOS update also mean a UEFI update?
Also, does anyone know where i can find the release notes for the bios updates? I've looked 'everywhere' and i cannot find them.
Thanks ![]()

As the system only shipped with Windows 7, we do not support UEFI on this system.
There is no update to change BIOS to UEFI.
It is also not needed to run Windows 8 on this system. Windows 8 will run on a system with BIOS without issue.

Ok, so i dumped my computers DMI (SMBIOS) and it says, under 'BIOS information' that UEFI is supported.
So what does that mean? Does it mean that it is possible to do a UEFI boot, its just not supported by acer.
How would one enable a UEFI boot in this case (my warrenty has expired so i can't void it) or is it just not possible?

It's not possible unless you have UEFI installed instead of BIOS.
The only updates we have available for the system are BIOS, not UEFI.
Latest version that I see available is BIOS v1.12.
