It sounds like you're just missing the window for the recovery process.
As soon as the Acer logo appears, you should be pressing Alt+F10. It may be easier to hold ALT and repeatedly tap F10 until it goes into recovery.
You can also boot from the recovery media that you created through the recovery software.
