Do you know what the difference is between the "below 300's" and "300's and above"?
I just bought my R7 two weeks ago. Same problem as everyone else.
My snid is 316.
Will Acer replace the card? I talked with customer service and they immediately said "send it in at Acer's expense".
But they didn't give me any indiction as to what the problem was or how they would fix it.

My snid is 319xxxxxx and I don't have any serious wifi issues. Sometimes when watching youtube videos or the like, I get some lag where my more basic tablets never have an issue. Without sending it in, I was wondering if there was a way to check the wifi card easily? Also this is unrelated but how is your paint holding up? The "metal" finishing on the plastic is rubbing off pretty bad for a machine that is only a few months old. Not sure if that is a warranty thing, but never hurts to ask you guys.

Interesting I just got my 4th exchange which starts with 320xx.. and my prior was 320xx as well..
I felt that it was in my best interest to honestly purchase BB protection plan with ADH for 2 years at 269... Acer's laptop style is genious but the weak signal is unacceptable. I only get wifi connection when in class and that is only because each room has a router! I cannot get wifi in my girlfriends living room or my own room in my house.. I should not have to change rounter settings to something abnormal. The router should be stable at a standard connection.
1st laptop was returned due to weak wifi and weird spacebar.
2nd laptop was returned due to hard drive fail, it would not load windows 8.
3rd laptop was returned due to unexpected shut downs randomly that become more consistent. And if I tilt the monitor that induced a unexpected shutdown in class. BS.
4th laptop was purchased with ADH for 2 years at 270. I am not sure if I should open the box.. or try to return it..
Why acer why!! such a beautiful product that has imperfections! I guess ill call several bb and hope after shipment they have a R7 with a higher SNID: than 27xxxx... :/ ?? Kind of a hassle to take up a USB port always with a Asus Wifi Adapter! Limited on usb ports as it is..

Frankie wrote:hey .... does anyone knows if i can get a full refund for my r7 from acer ????? im gonna get a macbook insted !!!! i done with acer ... please if anyone tried to ask for a refund or knows anything tell me !!! thanks ASAP
I was offered a full refund, I'm from the Netherlands. But that was after one failed repair and ordering a new one wasn't possible. But you'll have to get in contact with the After Sales department (via Acer-Cory or after an failed repair).

After watching this thread, I decided to call USA Acer support to request that they send me a new Aspire R7-571 with a wireless fix and they quickly sent out a replacement. I have had the replacement R7 (SNID 321xxxxxxxx with a blue dot on the box) for two weeks now. The replacement R7 also has the Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter, Driver 3/29/2013, v6.30.59.144 (the same as the original R7 SNID 323xxxxxxxx). Both computers were/are running Windows 8 x64.
In my use conditions at home, the Wi-Fi download speeds at a distance from my Wireless Dual Band Router (Netgear N600 WNDR3400v3) have improved on the replacement R7 using the built-in Broadcom Network Adapter for both the 2.4 GHz band and the 5 GHz band. However, unfortunately, even though improved, the 2.4 GHz band download speed still appears to be suboptimal. At my furthest normal use point from the router (≈20 feet away with 2 walls in between), the speed on the 2.4 GHz band still drops from ≈16.25 to ≈3.15 Mb/s even with a signal strength of 4 bars on the Windows 8 wireless icon and on a channel with no other Wi-Fi networks broadcasting. In contrast, in the same position, the 5 GHz band still gives a download speed of ≈16.25 Mb/sec even though the signal strength is only at 2 bars on the Windows 8 wireless icon. (I have cable internet rated at 16 Mb/sec download.)
I had previously posted tests of download speeds on the original R7 (obtained from www.speedtest.net ; 3-4 tests/condition) in 3 locations at which I commonly use the R7 (near the router and in two rooms on either side of a central room with the router) using an Ethernet connection or using wireless connections via the built-in Broadcom adapter on the 5 GHz band and on the 2.4 GHz band and via a USB ‘Amped Wireless’ High Power Wi-Fi Adapter for Windows 8, TAN1 on the 2.4 GHz band. I just reran the tests with the replacement R7 and am posting the results from the original and the replacement R7s below.

I bought a refurb R7 from the acer refurb store on eBay and it arrived yesterday. It looked brand new. After an hour of so of testing to make sure everything worked I upgraded the RAM and swapped the HD for an SSD. Very impressed with the quality and speed of the device so far especially for the refurb price.
I have bad eyesight and like how much closer the screen can be to your face than a standard laptop arrangement. Also I hate all windows laptop touchpads and never use them so having the touchpad hidden is fine with me. I hate laptops that sqeeze in a 10 key on the side of the keyboard causing you to have to shift your hands to the left at an odd angle. Another win for the R7.
I was originally going to wait for the Haswell version of the R7 but the combination of no release date for the US and the cheap price of the refurb R7s changed my mind.
