Been lurking for a week here. We bought two R7s about four weeks ago, one for me and one for my wife. Both have this wifi issue. I hounded Verizon for a while thinking it was them. Then, I noted my work HP laptop had no issue. Finding this forum saved Verizon from more calls by me.
I tend to never re-boot unless an update forces me to do so. I found that simply re-booting the R7 gave me passable wifi performance for a few hours to a about a day.
I am waiting to see how to resolve this without sending the laptops to them.

I see that Best Buy has lowered the price on the R7 to $899. I wonder if this is a "clearance" sale due to the bad buzz generated by this issue?

Hey someone please help me. I was so looking forward to buy the R7, but after reading all these reviews about the Wifi problem, I am scared to take that risk. I still love it a lot. Does this problen occur with all the R7's ??? Is Acer working on a solution?? Someone please give me a definite answer. I really love this product. It's sad to see it has this problem. Wifi is the most important feature I need.

I finally got my R7 a few hours ago.. im in love it but course there is a WIFI issue, just not as bad as i thought.
im getting 12-15mb/s download and upload my 5 year old HP
the R7 is getting 2-5 mb/s upload and download.
so as expected its alot slower but at 2-5mb/s you can surf the web fine
im more then 20 feet from the wifi point in a very big open room
i have ordered in advance of getting the laptop, should be here any day now, i will report with the usb stick once i get it.

Hello Foxy-lucy, good to finally hear some positive news on the R7 Wifi problem. It will be interesting to see if the download rate drops after a while or if it stays stable. I joined this forum a few days ago because I plan on buying the R7 but then I read about the Wifi issue and was getting a little hesitant.
But that concept is so intriguing to me, especially with that display resolution of 1920 x 1080, that I was considering a USB WLAN adapter if all fails. Somewhere else a customer said he was told by Acer they know about the problem and are working on a new driver. Let's hope that is correct!
I also wanted to mention that the problem is not just with the Acer Aspire R7 or those two WLAN adapters - it's across the board. Looks like Windows 8 is the common ground!

my machine is a facotry refurb for 750$
looks good as new to me, im upgarding the ram to 12gb and putting in a ssd 256gb samsung pro.
i do wonder if it was sent back cause of WIFI issue and it has been fixed some what,
its still half the speed of my iphone and 4 year old hp on speedtest but at 6mb/s download you can just about do anything
im not sure what speed is needed for netflix or streaming live sports, if someone knows the download rate needed to watch sports live let me know please.
i will get my USB wifi adapter soon.
