I could really do love my new laptop, if it weren't for this phantom key activation issue. For example, just in trying to type this message, the cursor will jump around into some other portion of this screen, try to activate whatever thing it lands on (as if the Enter key was being pressed), words/sentances/are selected so that they are deleted if I continue typing. Needless to say, this is highly annoying! What can I do to get this fixed?

It may be that you are inadvertently making contact with the touchpad while typing.
You could prove this by disabling the touchpad with <Fn> + <F7> while you type.
If this proves to be the case, you could try reducing the sensitivity.

I didn't know I could do that, but it certainly is worth a try! Thanks, let me try this out for a few days and report back.
