I bought my Acer pretty much new from my brother. He'd never had a reason to use the microphone before, so I'm just now discovering it. The computer registers both the internal and external microphones as working, but then won't pick up any sound whatsoever. I've gone through the sound preferences and checked all those options, and tried reinstalling the sound drivers, but nothing is coming up.
Any solutions for this?

To eliminate any possibility of software issues, I would suggest reloading the system to factory defaults.
Then again attempt to use the internal / external microphones.
