I have the Aspire 5733-6426 and my dvd drive has suddenly stopped working.

I have the Aspire 5733-6426 (model PEW71) and my dvd drive has suddenly stopped working, seemingly over night.  I can't burn music, play movies, nothing!  Why did this happen and can it be fixed?

I'm unable to answer "why" but I can certainly point you to your local service center to get it fixed.

If CD drives shows  exclamation mark in Device manger , you can run Microsoft fixit to fix the issue.

Thank you for your suggestion of microsoft fix it.  The cd/dvd icon in Device Manager DID have an exclamation point next to it, so I ran MS fix it and it did not even detect a problem! :smileysad:

Re: I have the Aspire 5733-6426 and my dvd drive has suddenly stopped working.

Don't worry,

Manually removing teh upper and lowe filters from registry should fix the issue.

Press the windows + R key to open run command

Type regedit in the box

Click ok

Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfiltersvalues completely from the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

After that restart the coomputer . :smileyhappy:
