If you search online you will find the service guide for your laptop. It will be more easy for you if you have the service guide with you.

ok I removed & einserted the hdd and got the same error message ... so its time for a new hdd ...

Went to Best Buy and popped in a new hard drive ... got the same error message all over again. Any more tricks or is it time to kiss my laptop goodbye?

Have you checked in BIOS if the HDD is listed under boot menu?

If you have the old HDD with you. Install it in the laptop and login to BIOS and check in boot menu if there is any HDD model listed near HDD 0 or HDD 1
Example HTS545032B9A300
If it is listed then it might be an issue with the boot sector of the HDD.

This is a job for someone who really understand computers and laptops. The machine is not recognising the hard drive as a bootable device. Why that is happening could be a lot of things but data recovery may require someone who can mount the hard disk as a slave to another computer.
