Help I have a 4 year old Acer aspire 5738G, that seems to over heat and shut down

I have an acer Asprie 5738g which over the last few months has started to shut it self down at random times.

However, yesterday it became really slow and made using it impostable.
I booted it up in to safe mode and tried to run the macafee virus scan, but it gets to about 11 percent of the way through then is shuts down again.

I have read that there is some problems with this over heating and the bottom of the computer is very hot, but I don't know how i fix this.

Please could some one help me. I am currently having to borrow a computer to write this on, as mine doesn't work anymore
Thanks
Rob
