I have tried numerous times to install the service pack 7.1 with no success. I found a document in product support that says the following:

"Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will not install properly with certain Intel video drivers.
To resolve the issue, Acer recommends downloading and installing Intel VGA driver 8.15.10.2189 (or newer).
Follow the steps below to locate the drivers for your notebook."

I followed the steps and got the following message:

What can I do? Is it just not possible to update this computer? If so, how do I disable the updates so that I can shut the thing down properly. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

first, uninstall all the intel driver.
and try again to re-install windows 7 SP1 update

Thanks, but don't I need the video driver in order for my screen to work? If i uninstall it I won't be able to see anything......sorry for my ignorance....

Check this page, there is also a driver update utility on this page which will check your drive

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately when I tried to update the driver, I got the following message:

I did download the new wireless driver. Sigh. Any ideas?

Go to microsoft site and try to download the service pack direct aand install it

Have you tried updating the intel driver from the acer download drivers site ?

It is not the graphics driver that needs to be updated. Everything I've used to check that says it's up-to-date. Now I am attempting to turn off the Automatic Windows Updater and attempting to then download the update manual. That hasn't worked yet either -- it hangs up at 38% dowloaded.
