Factory Restore Failure

I have an Aspire One D250 netbook. I just tried to do a factory restore and apparently I have bricked my netbook. I left it to do its thing and now all I have is a blinking cursor. This was several hours ago so I have to figure that the process just didn't finish. Am I screwed here? There isn't any point in reinstalling Windows XP and there is no optical drive so what do I do now? (I will probably end up giving it away to a Computers for Kids location and hope they can install a version of Windows on it) but wanted to know if I have any other option.

Before you give it away, you can try a computer repair shop. Since you can buy a bottom-line laptop for $200, I would not spend a lot of money on it, though. Here are some free suggestions that MIGHT work:

    1) The Universal Laptop Cure works about 10% of the time. Turn it off, unplug it, remove the battery, and hold the Power button down for one minute. Put it back together and try again.

    2) Try to get into Safe mode.
