I'm running Windows 8 on an Acer Aspire V5-571P-6407 that I bought about a month ago.

When typing in Word, or Outlook (both are 2013 versions) or even in this screen, the cursor will disappear (as in go to another field on the screen, like it just jumped up to the url field in Firefox) or go to another window, or jump around on the data entry screen to the middle or an earlier sentence or select a section of text to highlight. My hands, arms and shirt sleeves are nowhere near the touchpad, so I'm anticipating that there may be an updated driver for this touchpad that I haven't been able to find or there's a Windows 8 fix or the keyboard/touchpad needs to be replaced.

I forgot to mention that I'm using the keyboard to input not the on-screen touch keyboard.

Still not working. I'm able to type only by using a mouse to disable the touchpad. We'll soon see how straightforward Acer is about returning defective notebooks.

Went back to the Acer Explorer and downloaded and installed the Elan driver on top of the one that came with the computer and it may have resolved the issue. I'm watching the cursor bounce all over the screen right now, but at least it's not moving the focus to another window or highlighting the text as it was before. I'm going to try and fine tune the Elan settings and see what level of control I can have over this. I'm not exceptionally positive about the ultimate outcome. At least I was able to get confirmation from Staples that I could still return the Acer if need be.

Not sure if this is pertinnet but for my Aspire V3 731-4634 the nice lady from Mumbai, India (formerly Bombay) gave me this link which I am currently experimenting with.
