Create Recovery Drive Not Completing - Windows 8

I have an Aspire V3-771G, which has a 16 GB recovery partition that I'd hoped to move off to a thumb drive. I have a completely new Kingston 16 GB thumb drive, which was bought for this task. The full drive copy process seems to be hanging, or failing, or not reporting completion towards the end. The process has little to no activity, and the drive is no longer in use, and can be unmounted. Canceling the copy process just hangs.

Is there some way to rectify this?

    Good day

You need to format the flash drive to FAT32 then create the factory default backup.

Sorry, but that's not the solution. Formatting in Fat32 was the first thing I did after pulling it out of the package, because it came with some software from Kingston on it. Besides that, the Recovery Drive tool formats the drive itself to Fat32 as the first step in the process.
