Chromebook pricing (Australia)

Why on earth does the Acer C720 2GB chromebook cost TWICE in Australia what it costs in the US?  This thing is literally $200US and costs $400AU.  Convert the currency, $200US = $213AU.

Factor in shipping, increased (?) distribution costs, increased (?) support costs per unit, etc., and you still shouldn't come close.

How can a device with no HDD and a free OS cost as much as a lower end laptop with a 300+GB HDD and a copy of Windows 8 (which I presume MS won't give away for free)??

Great question! Even for the Europe area, that is the same speech exchange, combined with different products and different costs. Hopefully Acer, sooner or later meets and proposes solutions.
