I have an out-of-warranty aspire one 2555 - Bios Ver/Date: Aer V3.09(DDR2), 11/3/2010. I keep getting messages from Windows to update my Bios. On this site I was cautioned to be careful. Can anyone give me some advice?

Does your unit run ok right now? If it is and you're not comfortable flashing it on your own I would say don't even bother. It's not a hard process, but it's not at all uncommon to accidentally erase the bios completely. And considering you're out of warranty Acer won't help you fix it if it does get wiped. There is always the emergency bios recovery that requires you to load a rom image onto a usb and press a few keys, but that too can sometimes fail.
What exactly is the message that Windows is giving you?
