Hello,

I bought Aspire V3-771G a couple of days ago, planning to use it as a development machine (paid quite a bit for it) and I was pretty dissapointed to find that the Intel virtualization extension, which is supported by the CPU, was disabled. Also, in the BIOS, I can't seem to find any but the most basic configuration options.

So, my question is, how do I enable VT-x, and get access to more configuration options? Surely, such a machine should have them... I have the v1.11 BIOS, would updating it to 1.12 help?

Virtualization should be turned on by default in the BIOS if the CPU supports the feature. Could you please provide your specific V3-771G submodel?

I just bought my Acer V3-771G-9823 and also noticed that for BIOS 2.16 UEFI there is no option for virtulization to enable/disable it in BIOS. On the intel website the i7-3630QM has intel VT-x as a supported feature. Yet, when I try to run my virutal machines it says that the host does not support Intel VT-X. 

I agree for paying so much for a laptop this should be standard feature for such a high spec laptop.

It looks like ACER disables the intel menu in many of the bioses, which would have the option to enable intel vt-x. I really dont get why they do that, but it sure is dissapointing for people who need to use in a VMware , Hyper-V enviornment.

It is disappointing that Acer is  so restrictive in the use of their laptops.  I have a V3-771G-9441 and would like to turn on the virtulization.  I wonder if this has something to do with Mircosofts requirements to venders about Windows 8.  Microsoft is the one that placed the "secure boot", UEFI bios requirement for venders of Windows 8.

Anyway, this kind of heavy handed implementation in the computer industry is part of their decilne in sales.

Hi all,

As some of you have done, I've also bought this laptop (this morning!) to work with it as a little "IT Lab" and play with virtualization. I didn't know that the BIOS was closed to certain features, though, like the the VT-x ones... Very annoying...

I was very dissapointed, but fortunately I've found this article in vmware that could be related to this particular case. At the bottom of the said article, there's an iso file, burn it to a CD and boot with it, it will show you if the VT is enable in your CPU.

Hopefully it will be is as mine is... BTW, my system is a V3 771G, CPU 3632QM with Win8 pre-installed...

The system I received has the VT-x enabled but I downgraded OS to find it which I was planning to do after sometime.

1. Downgraded the system to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

2. Used the microsoft hardware detection tool to check VT-x. (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=592)

Please do not approach Acer support for this issue they have no clue on this and they will try to redirect you to the paid service.
