Aspire V3-771G-9441 mSATA card.

Is there something I need to do to get the mSATA card to cache the 1gig 5400RPM hd?  Right now it appears that it is showing up as an unallocated HD in Disk Management.  I thought the H77 chipset automatically used a mSATA as a cache.

Unfortuantely on this particular model laptop, without the ability to change the SATA mode in BIOS to RAID it is not possible to create a RAID O Cache volume to accelerate a SATA HDD disk on any port using an mSATA SDD with Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

I just purchased an Aspire V3-771G laptop myself. I was aware these machines come with an mSATA PCIe slot and with the HM77 chipset, which are two ingedients needed for Intel Rapid Storage Technology to work. I was planning to buy a 32Gb SDD mSATA card for this application. It wasn't until after I took delivery of the machine that I discovered Acer have failed to incorporate RAID mode as a selection in the BIOS SATA mode selector. What's up with that? Why give consumers an mSATA slot and a HM77 chipest but with no RAID capability? Acer almost made it possible to use Intel Rapid Storage Technology on the V3-771G laptops, but just not quite.

I do not know if the motherboards are missing the RAID controller or if ACER just haven't included RAID as a selection in BIOS.. either way, in my honest opinion, this is a big let down by Acer. I'm thinking I should have bought the Dell Inspirion 17R SE laptop, which also has an mSATA slot, also has a HM77 chipset, and most importantly, has INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY (in place of RAID) as a SATA mode selection in the BIOS.

Nice one Acer, you almost gave us IRST on the Aspire V3-771G laptops, but just not quite. Unbelievable.

Re: Aspire V3-771G-9441 mSATA card.

It is unfortunate that Acer is stupid about the way they have locked down the bios.  I build my own desktop systems, write programs and am very active on the internet on many software and hardware sites.  Unfortunatly, I will have to be very negative about Acer and recommend that people do not buy their product until they reverse this stupid decision.  Hopefully, I can save some other people the pain of an Acer purchase.
