Is this repairable? And is the solut?on something a lay person can apply? Thanx in advance.

It's probably not something you're going to fix on your own. A repair shop should be able to diagnose the problem. It is either the LCD panel is failing, or it could be the cabling from the mainborad to the LCD panel has come loose or gone bad. The cable obviously should be the cheaper solution.

Yes, it would be inside, working through the hinges.
