Laptop recently started dropping all its USB ports simultaneously after running for a while. If I leave everything connected, I will get a periodic message about a problem with the USB device. Nothing further can be connected. A warm reboot corrects everything but it will drop the ports again not long after.
Suggestions?

Pres, did you upgrade to 81 from another operating system (including Windows 8)? If you did, you deleted all your drivers and are now running on generic drivers.
Make sure that you are set to install all Windows and drivers automatically. Then go to IObit.com and download their free driver finder.

I upgraded from Win 8 to 8.1. The drivers look OK.
I followed troubleshooting advice and went into the device manager. One of the USB Root Hubs noted a problem. I disabled it as an experiment. The machine thought for quite a while and was then back to normal. I have left it disabled.
